Brett's Vegas Vacation

This is the min-vacation portion of my previous post, which I never go to due to the length of part one of my story.

The morning after the BBQ and bowling, I drove up to Las Vegas with my friend Erik. We went to Vegas to meet up with our friend Buzz, who was there with his family, and Erik's friend Andrew, whose girlfriend is stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. We did not end up hanging out with Buzz too much, because he was with his family, and they were also heavily invested in the NASCAR race that weekend. Much of our time there was just the two of us walking around the strip, and we ended up making plans to hang out with Andrew and his girlfriend the next day, which was Sunday.

In the meantime, we ended up taking a cab with Buzz and his family later in the evening and went to Fremont Street to catch the light show. I have never been particularly impressed with this light show, and that was the case again this time. I was, however, impressed with the Golden Nugget. It appears as though they remodeled it and it looks really classy. I liken it to the movie Tombstone, where the Oriental Saloon was a nice place, but nobody went there because certain characters who frequented there, but once they were removed, it was nice again. One of my favorite parts of being on Fremont was a motorcycle show. It started off with one guy on a motorcycle in a relatively small, spherical cage, it slowly progressed into three motorcyclists in the cage along with a man standing in the middle holding up a hat for them to grab and put back on his head all while riding in loops and circles around the inside of the cage. It was amazing!

We stayed at the Stratosphere, toward the end of the main portion of the strip because we did not feel like spending an arm and a leg. While we were standing around in the casino portion of the hotel, I smiled at a girl as she walked past, and she stopped and walked back over to talk to us. We ended up talking for a good hour or so and she seemed to like me, but was conflicted because she had a boyfriend who she was arguing with a lot recently. It did not really matter to me, because there would have been no future there anyway, but it was fun regardless.

The next morning, Andrew's girlfriend gave us a tour of Nellis
Air Force Base. It was breathtaking to be so close to tanks, planned, and she gave us a tour of missiles, and aircrafts. They had a MiG-23 and a MiG-27, which are Russian fighter aircrafts introduced in the 1970s. We actually got to sit in the cockpit which was quite an adrenaline rush. It was thrilling to stand right next to them,Sunday morning, we met up with Andrew and his girlfriend as but actually being able to touch the flight instruments was a rush!

T
he entire time we were in Vegas, we discussed going up to the top of the Stratosphere and going on the rides. Finally after visiting the base, we made the trip up the elevator to the top of the Stratosphere. I am not horrible with heights, but being up there in the open air with the wind blowing and then going on rides was giving me a bit of anxiety. We first went on The Big Shot, which shoots you straight up into the air and then drops you. Seeing as we were already over one thousand feet above solid ground made this experience much different. I screamed the entire way up in fear, and the entire way down in excitement. After that, we tried Insanity, which hangs you over the edge of the Stratosphere and spins you in circles. The ride itself would have been fairly tame if we were not staring several stories toward the ground! Since it was late Sunday afternoon, we were able to ride The Big Shot a few more times as well as Insanity.
